Molten metal is poured into a hollow cylindrical mold spinning about a horizontal or vertical axis at speeds generating more than 100 Gs of centrifugal force. The force distributes the metal and shapes it into a tubular casting. Compared with gravity or static casting, CCI states that the denser, closer-grained structure can improve physical properties (tensile, yield, elongation, reduction of area) by up to 30%, increase service life, and move oxides and impurities to the inside diameter where they are machined away. Pattern expense is eliminated because CCI keeps an extensive mold inventory. Mold setup is short, which supports faster delivery. ## Foundry and quality Foundry operations are in-house. Before a heat is poured it must pass a quality inspection. A test sample (“button”) is taken and a complete chemical analysis is run on an optical emission spectrometer. Each button is tagged, cross-referenced, and retained. Each casting is permanently marked with work order number, heat number, and type of material for traceability through manufacturing.
